micheal oats.

i came across Micheal Oats and his photography whilst browsing through some fashion blogs and fell in love with his style! a little risque, a little vintage and very in-your-face. a few of my favourite shots are from an editorial; Allure.

hop, skip and a week.

it is 1:40 am on a Wednesday and i officially have exactly one week till i leave for home! these days have been passing by painfully slowly and i have nothing extensive or exciting to blog about. well, i have started watching Sex & the City again to pass time (hence the title of my post) and the nerd in me has been occupied with a few documentaries here and there; the latest being Guns, Germs & Steel based on the book by Jared Diamond. i had actually read bits of his book for my Anthropology and World Studies classes back in high school and so was pretty excited when i came across the documentary (don't laugh!). it basically analyzes and explains Diamond's theory on geography being the primary reason for some cultures (namely the Europeans) succeeding more than the others leading to the societal inequalities we find in present day. i actually miss my high school classes; an array of subjects questioning and challenging my brain rather than being bombarded by theories on just marketing and advertising (as much as i like it).

on another note, the weather has been sunny, warm and beautiful these last couple of days which makes me very very happy and want to be outside all the time. there is still a lot to be done before i leave though and i'm so so lazy to get through them all! this has been a rather dull post, some pretty little things on my next one, i promise. oh yes, i changed my header again (the perfectionist in me acting up as always) and i feel Gisele does it some excellent justice; taken from an editorial in Harper's Bazaar Russia June 2007 and photographed by the infamous Lagerfeld himself.

lady noire affaire.

it is a beyond beautiful Sunday. the sun is shining bright and the temperature outside is just perfect. if only British weather was like this all year round. pure bliss and proof of how greatly weather can impact one's mood. hopefully the rest of this week will follow by example.

colours.

i think of you in colours that don't exist

miranda's abode.

ah, one of my obsessions; Aussie model, Miranda Kerr has a stunning apartment in NYC. i love all the whites and the random splashes of colour everywhere. i also love her mix of Victorian and Asian touches; royal whites with Asian wood. especially the Asian inspired wooden lounge she's sitting on with colourful pillows. beautiful, just beautiful.

i can't wait to have my own apartment. a chic little place in NYC adorned with some elegant whites, a whole lot of Asian furniture with touches of colour here and there. i can dream can't i?

soul meets body.

and i cannot guess what we'll discover
when we turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels
but i know our filthy hands can wash another's
and not one speck will remain

summer things.

since i'm so ecstatic about getting through all my Uni related stuff and having a mere two weeks till i'm outta here, i thought the following (stunning) editorial of Behati Prinsloo did appropriate justice to summer. i've never been a fan of hers nor do i think she's very attractive but the composition of these are lovely. simple, young and carefree.

i want to live where sould meets body
and let the sun wrap its arms around me
and bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
and feel, feel what it's like to be new

matthew williamson.

i love the concept and the music but found the ending incredibly cheesy.

my Finance exam was today and it went surprisingly well. i'm so relieved to have gotten it over already, leaving two weeks till i head home. there is going to be some Gatecrash-ing tonight with the girls and i'm excited! hello freedom.

let the rain fill my mouth.

i love rain, i really do. when i was much younger and living in India, i can still vividly remember the fresh smell of wet grass and mud which was left behind after a good few hours of downpour. this would then be followed by the usual aromas of Indian cooking filling the air from neighbours' houses. rain would also mean that the little streets of Calcutta were going to be terribly flooded leading to already cumbersome traffic jams. looking out the car window you would often see naked children from roadside slums drenched in rain water but playing with such euphoria that you would wonder whether they really are the unfortunate ones.

but i must admit, i fell in love with rain once i moved to Malaysia. tropical rain just has its own charm - and it managed to charm me straight away. never have i witnessed rain with such force, such a fury; one that makes you feel your existence is close to nothing in comparison. buildings right in front of you are blinded by a curtain of white and gray downpour and the wind whistles constantly through tightly shut doors and windows. what follows is pure bliss as the air is infused by a pleasant and light dampness with the surroundings cooling down (amid the otherwise hot and humid Malaysian temperature). i took that photo on my trip back over Spring Break - it's a part of the view from my room. on one side there is alarge hill, completely green with flourishing trees and the most beautiful sight is after the rains when light, fluffy clouds descend upon that hill and loosely lace the trees as if dabbing them dry. it's so calm, so serene, so natural in an otherwise concrete jungle.

and then we have rain here; ugly, irritating and unnecessary and not to mention cold and uncomfortable. it has been raining constantly for the past five days and is expected to rain for the next week, according to weather reports. bleh.

gritty young thing.

weekend.

the days are going by rather slowly again (though another Saturday is here and almost on its way out) and i'm desperately trying to make time go faster. blogging is ofcourse a great remedy. i'm two and a half weeks away from home and counting. the end of this week will be comforting; with one exam down (Finance! shoot me now!) and one more to go. it's annoying having week-long breaks in between my exams though there is actually a lot i have left to do before leaving for summer; Asia calling!

i watched the new Star Trek yesterday and totally fell in love with Chris Pine. Zachary Pinto just looked odd in a role other th
an Sylar on Heroes. i've never been a Star Trek fan, nor did i know what on earth was going on till towards the end of the movie but overall, i really enjoyed it. i have also been getting addicted to Family Guy lately. procrastination intertwined with a lack of things to do leads to silly obsessions and habits.

Chris Pine in GQ

i went into town today - for general browsing and some spending of money but it didn't give me much satisfaction. i am not at all pleased with the current weather. it's been raining everyday for the past four days and Birmingham is hideous enough without gray skies and wet, grimy streets.

fashion is not something that exists in dresses only; fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening

revive me soon.

we are all in the gutter.
but some of us are looking at the stars.

alas! my assignments and presentations are all done and turned in. it's such a relief and one of those moments when you feel like you deserve to take the rest of your life off. or is it just me? i am all fashion-ed and research-ed out being so engrossed in it for the last 2 weeks. i am also currently running on just about a total of 8 hours of sleep over the last 2 days so my whole system feels like it will collapse any second (i will have you note that i am not a coffee drinker which therefore amazes me that i am still awake). mmm end of assignments results in nights of partying but my bed looks so tempting right now; not to mention my neverending cravings for Caramel Digestives.

i am so ready to be home; so close but want to be closer. we are already half-way through the month of May. as glad as i am, i really do wonder where my second year of Uni went?! it still feels like a couple months back that i started. it also feels like one large gray blur. it's really not supposed to is it?

i haven't taken any photos in a while and it's been bothering me; a lot. i have also been wanting a Polaroid camera lately - Polaroid pictures keep popping up on peoples' blogs and they're stunning.

Saturday 9 May 2009

hours move to minutes.

this past week has been a complete blur. amid the rush of researching, planning and executing the campaign for my Advertising class; a lot of late nights followed by continuous sleeping in and the week just vanished. hence, the lack of blogging. however i did create a new header for the blog yesterday after being slightly irritated by endlessly working on Storyboard sketches. i like. i want this Wed to come and go already! which would leave just two exams and three weeks till home. so all in all, blurry weeks are a good thing?

when all that we need is just a reaction

it's too much to ask for when there's no attraction anymore
if chasing our dreams is just a distraction
i want to remember when i know that i can't go back

it's such a lazy Saturday. i wish i could sleep forever.

Happy Weekend Everyone

remember to breathe.

blogging at 1 am? i must be procrastinating again...or taking full advantage of my insomnia. i think both. it's one of those times when it's late at night and you're tired but you don't want to go to sleep. you just want to do....something!? creative? reflective? productive? maybe it's my OCD again. but things are finally starting to slow down and my assignment stress is now under control. i cannot wait till next Wednesday after which things will be even more at ease. assignments+presentations will be done with just three weeks and two exams till summer. nice to see that i'm not obsessing!

words of wisdom

i came across this on a friend's Facebook and thought it was brilliant! Karl Lagerfeld is a genius.

speaking of fashion, i have been over-consumed by it lately. especially since i'm working with Versace for my Advertising class and having to launch a whole new campaign, i've been spending hours and hours staring blindly (and a little excitedly) at models, editorials and campaigns for inspiration. it's so easy to get sucked in, pretty clothes and supermodels - what a reality.

i need a reality check.
